JayBird X2 Review

JayBird X2 Review

JayBird X2

I have had my pair of JayBird Bluebuds X for two years now, and I was absolutely delighted when Jaybird announced the launch of the X2 which is their revamped version of the world's best selling bluetooth headphones. I have had them on whenever I go to the gym, either in my ear or sitting around my neck. I find myself reaching for my Bluebuds X when taking trips.X2s are the successor to the Bluebuds X which we reviewed earlier. The first things you will find on opening the box are the interchangeable ear tips, which are made more comfortable by the inclusion of Comply Foam tips. These are quite possibly my favorite tips for any earbuds out there. You will also get silicon tips, but those are nothing compared with these premium squishy-foam friends. I am a HUGE fan of these new comply foam tips made for the Jaybird X2.

Let's take a look at JimsReviewRoom's Review of the Jaybird X2

Contents of the package

The package is very similar to that of its predecessor. It also contains a premium carrying case and the X2s, secured with some tabs. The case contains the ear fins that will keep the earbuds within your ears. Thanks to the matte finish, the buds will not slip or slide at all; I often had such an issue with my Bluebuds X. The next items that come in the package are a few little clips that will make cable management easier. The good news is that everything that you need to get up and running, you will find in the box. You can also pair up to eight devices with the X2 headphones.

Aside from a few tweaks here and there, the X2 buds have not changed very much. I agree one hundred and ten percent with the old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” — which is precisely what JayBird did when they designed the new X2 headphones.

Let's take a look at this quick start guide from Jaybird

Build quality

The range of color options for the phones has been expanded and now includes alpha, charge, fire, ice, midnight and storm. Their matte coating feels great — the Bluebuds X, by contrast, had a glossy finish.

Form and function

The JayBird X2 headphones are a dream to use. Their battery life has been rated at eight hours, and I have no trouble believing that figure because the batteries have never gone dead on me; and only on rare occasions have I been greeted with a low battery warning. Charging up the batteries is a simple process: The charging port is located underneath one of the earbud caps, and a microUSB cable is also included in the package. There is an in-line remote for changing tracks, buttons for plan, pause and power mode, and even a built-in microphone that will enable you to take calls while on the go.

If that is not enough, these headphones are sweat-proof and guaranteed for life. Even if they should get damaged by sweat, you are covered.

Comfort

It is true, there are many people who tend to be rather picky about which in-ear headphones they choose, especially when using them to exercise. In-ear headphones are difficult to keep in the ears because they tend to fall out when the wearer is engaged in an activity that requires a great deal of movement. These issues are eliminated with the X2s, especially owing to the Comply foam tips, which are more comfortable than their silicone counterparts. The sports ear fins keep the earbuds in place when the wearer is walking, running, jogging or lifting weights — in fact, they can endure just about any activity that is thrown at them. They will stay secured even if you use them when warming up for a sports event.

The ear fins now have a wider tip so that they can fit more securely. You can also wear the earbuds in two different ways — over or under the ears. Many buyers prefer the latter, though if you want a tighter and more secure fit, over the ear is superior; that is the purpose of the cord management clips.

Sound quality

Music lovers will be more than pleased with the superior quality of the X2s, which the earbuds maintain over a range of musical genres — rock music, rap music, EDM and more. They are wireless and compact, yet they deliver clean audio sound and great bass. In addition to being able to listen to your music wirelessly, you can also use the X2s to take calls. The person on the other end of the line may not even be able to tell that you are using headphones at all!

There is at least one other characteristic of the original Bluebuds that has been corrected in their successor product. The buttons used to turn the volume up and down make an annoying beep when pressed, and there is no way to disable this feature. JayBird has fixed this minor annoyance.

Battery life

Those who work out for up to two hours, several times a week, will definitely want these headphones as they provide eight hours of usage with the volume at fifty to seventy-five percent.

Bottom line

What makes the X2 headphone set a worthy choice for the customer over its predecessor? The finish and colors that are available are outstanding this time. The compact design, of which I am a fan, is nothing new, but the Comply Foam tips make them much more comfortable to wear, and your ears can feel the effects of the redesign on the ear fins.

The main reason why you should try this product, however, is the sound quality, which has definitely been improved. I am convinced beyond a doubt that these are some of the best Bluetooth earbuds that you can buy, especially considering their price range (around $180). The sound has been fine-tuned and improved over the Bluebuds X, and if you try both of them side by side, you will definitely be able to hear the difference.

If you are out to buy a pair of wireless earbuds, whether for your smartphone or for an Apple Watch, these are what you want. If on the other hand, you want to save some money and are not interested in the “latest and greatest,” go ahead and purchase the original Bluebuds; it will still be a good buy.
